(May 9, 2008)—The polls are open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Saturday in towns and cities throughout Central Texas as voters decide everything from multi-million dollar school bond issues to city council races.

Waco School District voters will decide a $172.5 million proposed bond issue that would pay for three new elementary schools, a new University High School, renovations and additions to both Waco High School and A. J. Moore Academy, and other renovation projects throughout the district.
Waco ISD Board members David Schleicher and Larry Perez are both running unopposed.
Waco voters will also decide a race between Mayor Virginia DuPuy and challenger Brenda Eton Bell and a race between District III council incumbent Randy Riggs and challenger Bill Franklin.

In the adjoining Midway ISD, voters will decide a $75.8 million bond issue that would pay for new elementary and intermediate schools, renovations to existing campuses, an addition to Midway High School, a new administration building, a new transportation and maintenance facility and additions and renovations to Panther Stadium.
Board members Pete Rusek and John Boyd are both running unopposed.

Temple voters will decide a $13.99 million bond issue proposal that would pay for construction of a new central fire station and combined fire training center and emergency operations center as well as three new engines.
They’ll also decide a contested council race between District 2 incumbent Patsy Luna and challengers Mia McBride and Robert Martin and a contested school board race between District 2 incumbent Dorothy Powell and challenger Mary Loving.

In Killeen, voters will decide contested school board and city council races.
Place 4 Killeen ISD Board incumbent Mike Helm faces challenger T. J. Carson and Place 5 incumbent Terry Delano faces challenger Ed Coet.
Killeen Mayor Timothy Hancock has three challengers: Lahr Parsons, Harold Butchart and Maureen Jouett.
Incumbent at-large council members Larry Cole, Otis Evans and Billy Workman face a long list of challengers including Ed Frazee, Jr., Michael Hunter, Doris Owens, Carol Moses, Bernadine Martin and Scott Cosper.

Copperas Cove voters will decide contested school board and city council races, as well as wading through a long list of proposed City Charter amendments.
Jim Copeland and Earl D. Holt are seeking the Place 6 seat on the Copperas Cove School Board.
John Gallen, Willie Goode and Billie Stephens are seeking the Place 6 council seat.
Danny Palmer, Frank Seffrood, Sandor Vegh, Joseph Solomon and Rick Ott are seeking the Place 7 council seat.
