(May 10, 2008)— Waco School District voters approved a $172.5 million bond issue Saturday that will pay for three new elementary schools, a new University High School, renovations and additions to both Waco High School and A. J. Moore Academy, and other renovation projects throughout the district.

Waco ISD Board members David Schleicher and Larry Perez were both running unopposed.
Waco Mayor Virginia DuPuy easily survived a challenge from Brenda Eton Bell and District III council incumbent Randy Riggs defeated challenger Bill Franklin.
Midway ISD voters approved a $75.8 million bond issue Saturday that will pay for new elementary and intermediate schools, renovations to existing campuses, an addition to Midway High School, a new administration building, a new transportation and maintenance facility and additions and renovations to Panther Stadium.
The final vote was 1516 for-1206 against.
Board members Pete Rusek and John Boyd both ran unopposed.
Temple voters said yes to a $13.99 million bond issue proposal that will pay for construction of a new central fire station and combined fire training center and emergency operations center as well as three new engines.
There will be a runoff for the District 2 city council seat between Mia McBride and Patsy Luna.
District 2 Temple School Board member Dorothy Powell defeated challenger Mary Loving.
In Killeen, Mayor Timothy Hancock survived challenges from three candidates to win another term.
Scott Cosper, incumbent Larry Cole and incumbent Billy Workman won the race for three seats on the Killeen City Council.
Place 4 Killeen ISD Board incumbent Mike Helm defeated challenger T. J. Carson and Place 5 incumbent Terry Delano defeated challenger Ed Coet.
Copperas Cove voters return to the polls in June to decide runoffs between Place 6 council candidates John Gallen and Willie Goode and Place 7 council candidates Frank Seffrood and Joseph Solomon.
Copperas Cove voters also faced a daunting list of 28 proposed amendments to the city’s charter.
All 28 passed.
Jim Copeland defeated Earl D. Holt in the race for the Place 6 seat on the Copperas Cove School Board.
McGregor voters defeated a local option liquor sales proposition by a two-to-one margin, 406-210.
Paul Allison defeated Rick Doyle to win the Ward 2 seat on the McGregor City Council.
