(May 12, 2008)—Waco police were investigating after a late-model Lincoln Continental driven by an elderly woman smashed through the front windows of a battery store.

Employees said it sounded like a bomb had exploded.

A customer who pushed off from the car as it cruised past displays toward the checkout counter was knocked over, but wasn’t seriously injured.

It happened just before noon at Batteries Plus at 4300 W. Waco Dr.

When an accident like this occurs, it makes me think that there should be more legislation involving elderly drivers. People need to understand that driving is a privilege, not a right (no matter how long you've been driving). If you prove that you are unable to drive properly, carefully, safely, and be completely alert and in control of your vehicle at all times while driving, then you should lose the PRIVILEGE to operate a motor vehicle.

This is the second story involving elderly drivers. The other being the couple that drove into the pond. I think once a driver hits 70 they should have to retake a driving test yearly to test their reflexes and thinking skills. Many of them just can't think fast enough to react to a situation.
