(May 13, 2008)—Waco firefighters are looking for the cause of a house fire that may have been sparked by a lightning strike Tuesday morning.
The fire was reported around 10 a.m. in a house at 3920 Austin Ave. in Waco, at about the same time as thunderstorms were rumbling in the area.
Smoke was pouring from the attic of the home when the first crews arrived.
At one point, the flames and smoke were so intense that firefighters were forced to back out of the burning residence.
By late morning, the fire was out.
The heaviest damage appeared to be in the attic of the home.
The resident of the home is evidently out of town and firefighters said the house was unoccupied.
