(May 13, 2008)—A state district judge in Waco sentenced a parolee who snatched his estranged girlfriend's toddler on New Year's Day to four years in prison.

Officials say the youngster, who was wearing just a diaper, suffered in the cold as 24-year-old Ryan Keith Hopkins of Axtell carried her through a wooded area.

Hopkins gave up when the toddler’s grandfather stuck a pair of needle-nose pliers into his ear.

Court records indicate Hopkins smelled of alcohol during the incident in which he was accused of pulling knife.

He allegedly was upset about the woman's relationship with another man.

Hopkins, who is not the father of the child, pleaded guilty Monday to injury to a child with a deadly weapon.

The state-jail felony was enhanced to a third-degree felony because of an earlier drug-related conviction.

There is a GOD in heaven! Thank God the baby wasnt harmed! And thank God this ANIMAL is off the streets! Kudos to the grandfather for doing what he did. If more people got involved, maybe the criminals would think before they attempt something like this!
