(May 15, 2008) -- The future of one Central Texas police force is still up in the air, after a heated city council meeting in the city of Nolanville.

On Thursday, the city council started debating on whether to slash the size of the force amidst complaints.

At issue, the proper ratio of officers to residents for the city, which has a population approaching 5,000.

The police department has 8 positions, 7 of which are filled.

The resolution up for vote would have eliminated 3 of those positions.

In the end, the Council voted to table the issue until another meeting.

I cannot believe this is even up for debate. As a manager of a new business in the Nolanville area, I depend on these folks and they have always been there when needed. Folks in Nolanville have to remember that this city is no longer small and the boundaries of the area are forever growing. With new deveopments in the eastern, western and southern areas of the city, it sometimes takes a while to answer a call. And if there is a train coming through, unfortunately this stops the whole town. This should be the debate on how to fix this problem as it could mean the difference between life and death. Get for real Nolanville council and those that are complaining.
