(May 16, 2008)—Gas prices rose by another penny Friday, and AAA says the national average price of a gallon of regular unleaded is nearly $3.79.
Retail gasoline prices remain at record highs across Texas, too.
The weekly Triple-A Texas gas price survey released Friday shows regular self-serve is averaging $3.68 per gallon in the survey's 11 cities, 15 cents higher than last week's record high.
Auto club spokeswoman Rose Rougeau predicts high fuel prices and tough economic times generally will keep some Americans at home come Memorial Day.
She says the number of people expected to be traveling in the Memorial Day holiday later this month is expected to drop by about a percentage point from last year.
The most expensive gasoline in Texas was in Amarillo, where the average spiked 13 cents from last week to $3.71 per gallon.
The cheapest gas was in El Paso, where prices soared 14 cents to $3.63 per gallon.
Around the state Friday, prices ranged from as little as $3.53 a gallon at a station in Lake Jackson to as much as $3.99 a gallon at a station in Bakersfield, according to Texasgasprices.com
