A | A | A

(June 30, 2008)—Police Monday released the names of the victims of an early-morning accident Sunday in Killeen that left two dead and one injured.

Xantavia Phillips, 23, whom police identified as a Fort Hood soldier, and Leslie Spear, 23, of Coppell died in the collision around 3:45 a.m. Sunday on Highway 190 about one mile east of the Clear Creek Exit, police said.

The two drivers were taken to Carl Darnall Army Medical Center at Fort Hood where they were both pronounced dead around 6:15 a.m. Sunday.

Amanda Elmore, 22, of Temple was taken to Scott & White Hospital in Temple with what the Department of Public Safety said were serious injuries.

Information about her condition was not available.

Phillips was westbound on Highway 190 in a 2003 Cadillac DeVille when it collided head on with Spear’s 2005 Ford Mustang, which the DPS said appeared to have been headed east in the westbound lane.

Becky and Jami..I am so sorry for the loss of Amanda. I wish that we got to know each other alittle better..because life is so short. Out of respect for my Uncle Doug and for my cousin Jami...my Mother KARLA would never abuse this page and she does not have an IQ of a 4th Grader...anyone making inappropriate comments on this page is very immature. I DO NOT care what happened in the past Amanda was still my cousin and still the daughter of my Uncle and in no way should anyone be disrespectful....my uncle is going through the struggle of his life right now...he lost his mother and daughter within a year and is battling cancer, I ask that all of this nonsense stop! I will continue to pray that God give all the families involved the strength to continue to live and remember the great memories they have of their loved ones. My mother never once disrespected someone in anyway..we will all continue to love Jami and Amanda regardless if others think it is our place or not!

I will not agrue with you. So let me leave you with this. Yes, I was 'there' the last time Amanda was in the hospital. I even organized a blood drive for her. I think you might be just a little too big for your britches. I probably know more than you think I do! You don't know me, just as I don't know you....so this all really just needs to stop. Why is it you want to agrue with everyone and even tell people to email you if they have 'comments'? Yet you posted 3 entries containing only rambling thoughts. Maybe you need some help for anger management.

Karla: Can you say the words 'proof read'? It is easy to tell by your rantings who is the simpleton in the group!! Can't even use the English language properly....I'm figuring you have about a 4th graders IQ! LOL!!!

Posted by: Karla on Jul 17, 2008 at 11:51 AM
Besides when did Becky tell me to back off? I havn't talked to her or Jami by phone since they got mad at me for asking if they(accident) were drinking! How do you know that I havn't talked to them by phone? Sounds like to me you heard some stories! I quit calling! Why do think it's your business anyway getting in a "family Feud"? Were you there when Amanda was in the hospital the last time when she lived here? I was! Not one person said a word to me then! So why now? What is wrong with you people? Whose whacked out? I am done wasting my time. I am no longer on this page. If want to write something you have my e-mail.

Posted by: Karla on Jul 17, 2008 at 11:43 AM
You know, some people do drink and drive and they do get in accidents and they do hurt people. But that doesn't mean that they meant to. All I asked was if they were drinking because it would give me a logical answer to why the accident happened. I understand no ALCOHOL was involved! I don't understand why thses weird people have to get me because I asked a simple question! What about what they told me the first time around?? I think I would have rather been drunk than being chased by the police from murdering someone! Who told me that? OH! Thats ok, I guess. You can tell people something but you can't ask? You people are nuts! You should read ALL of the comments!

Posted by: Karla on Jul 17, 2008 at 06:24 AM
Why not look back on here and see who started to abuse this page! Why am I getting accused? This page was for comments for the people in the accident, then it went crazy! What is wrong with asking"was alcohol involved"? Can anyone answer this qustion without losing it? I was told a whole different story in the begining and found out more on this page. Then I ask a simple question and you people are putting words in my mouth! Use my e-mail to make comments.I can go public too........but I'm not!Its no-one business what has happenend in the past Becky,me,Jami & Doug.

Posted by: Karla Location: Spfld on Jul 17, 2008 at 06:14 AM
Tracey,I am apoloigizing to Jami & Becky(and the other families) for ASKING if alcolhol was involved! Becky & Jami got offeneded!Just by me asking! I didn't accuse no-one of anything! Sounds like to me your a trouble maker! It's not of your bus siness what goes on between family! I have my reasons for not being involved in the girls life for the past 20 years. How do you figure that I am the one that started abusing this page? By asking questions? Why are you abusing this page?I have nothing to hide from. How did Becky put me in my "place"? I'd write about things in public to but I'm a better person.I do have respect! Becky knows whats goin on,you don't! So keep your nose on your own face instead of my business.I love Amanda and Jami, and I always will! You don't have anything to do with it and your not going to change my feelings. I asked a simple question & you all go nuts!!!!! What is wrong with you guys? This is about Amanda.Anyone can e-mail me,why use this page?

Posted by: Tracey Location: Cantrall on Jul 16, 2008 at 10:05 PM
Karla: I'm not sure what is up between you and Becky (sounds like a family fued). If she asked you to back off....then you need to BACK OFF!! Funny how you say you hoped you didn't offend anyone by posting the fact Amanda had passed. Why did you need to do it if you thought it might offend someone in the family? Sounds to me like maybe you are a trouble maker and need to go hide somewhere!!! I have been friends with Becky for over 20 years and spent plenty of time with the girls!!! Those of us who love and care for that family never started asking any questions on the internet, it was by phone and in person. You, my dear, are the one that started 'abusing' this page. I find it funny that when Becky tried to put you in your place you didn't want to make it public. Good luck in life sister....sounds like you are a little WACKED OUT!!!! Becky / Jami / Joyce: You know I love you ALL....sorry for going off! Just couldn't take it anymore!!!

I am so sorry to hear about Amandas passing. She was a sweet, good hearted child, who really, through no fault of her own, never had a chance at the life she so richly deserved. There were times, through ignorance on my part, I did not show it properly, but I did love her and will miss her with all my heart. Please pass along any information on burial plans. Thank You

Posted by: Anonymous on Jul 12, 2008 at 09:45 AM
Amanda, you are missed already! I'm so glad your "princess" got to talk to you that last time Wednesday. You will always be as she calls you, "my Amanda". Your contribution to her life was a gift, she loves you. Thank you for being who you were.

I'd just like to say what difference does it make what happened in the wreck, other than to the parents of these people. It's no one else's business. Now, we should all come together and pray that this sweet girl makes it. I can tell you that no one is more focused on their daughter's recovery than Becky. She would give her own life to save her and that's a fact. The comments and innuendos need to stop. This isn't the time or place for that. Just pray for her and her mom.

Lord, have mercy on all the family members. Lord, extend to all of them your Grace, comfort and above all LOVE. Amen Lord, I ask that you heal hearts. I ask Lord that you heal Amanda of all her injuries as well as her emotional state from now to recovery! Amen Lord, work your will in the lives of all involved in this tragedy. May your name be glorified. Amen And Amen

Lets use this space to remember those who are lost, get updates on info we KNOW about the accident, and please, updates on Amanda's condition. I was one of Leslie's good friends. I will be praying for her. If Leslie liked her, then she must be a really great girl. She's in my prayers. As well as X's family.

Posted by: Lyndi &Kelsey Location: Springfield,IL on Jul 2, 2008 at 01:43 PM
I am sorry for the loss.To lose anyone is devastating regardless of who or what they did because that is somebody's son or daughter, best friend, boyfriend or girlfriend. All families are in my prayers, and just know they are in a better place. I (Kelsey) am Amanda's cousin. I remember when we use to play at Uncle Doug's house in 16th..( I think it was on 16th). I pray that she pulls through and makes a great recovery. She is in our thought's and prayers as well and the 2 that were lost. Becky-- why are you more focused on who cares and who did what in the past you need to be more focused on your daughters recovery. We need all the prayers we can get right now. Family is family! We know we haven't been a big part of her life but we do still care about her because after all she is a part of our family. We will continue to pray for her. It'd be nice if you could give us that credit.

Im sorry to hear about your sister. Leslie and I were best friends. Just a few days before she was telling me how much she liked her. I don't know your sisters current condition, but she is in my prayers. This was just all a very tragic accident and simply a case of confusion on an unfamiliar road. From what I hear about the roads layout any one of us could have made the mistake.

Becky, I am on here to find out what happened! Not to abuse this free comment page. You guys said he(Xantovia) had murdered someone and was running from the police.Thats why I asked the other questions, when I read another comment saying it was Leslie. Your trying to make it look like I am the bad person! I was mad at Amanda for what she has done! You know why too! It doesn't mean that I want her hurt! I love Amanda in my own way,and I do care what happens to her. What have I ever done to the girls, Becky? It does matter what kind of people they were!It is horrible that this whole had happened! I'm not blaming anyone! I just want to know what happened! If you have something to say to me e-mail me.My address is on here, don't make it a public thing and abuse this page! This is between you & I,not the public.

This is Amandas sister. My sister is a very good person that was on her way to being a very great adult. Before that morning she had only been out into the late night world for a few weeks. She is very much a home body that loved staying in with family and watching movies. It was I that wanted her to have a life that consisted of friends and loved ones. She was in desperate search for the love of her life and was looking for this in Leslie. She is going to be devestated when she awakes of the news of her death. From what I understand now, Leslie was confused on to what side of the barricades to be on due to that heavey road construction going on at the scene of the accident. No one knows or probably will know why this happened and we are very sorry for the cause of this. My sister WAS THE PASSENGER. And it is unfair to try and place blame on her or anyone else not knowing the circumstances. There were two too many tragedies, we all know this.

Karla. You didnt want to go to a family wedding earlier in the yr,,,why worry about Amanda now? And NO she wasnt driving. NO alcohol was involved.

Posted by: Becky Location: Texas on Jul 1, 2008 at 10:46 PM
Karla. What difference does it make what kind of people they were? They are gone. If you really care you should be grieving for the families.

I'm confused and need clarification. I drive to Cove from Killeen everyday and the article states it was apprx 1 mile (westbound side) from the Clear Creek Exit. If the soldier was going towards Cove that part of the highway has concrete barriers from the Main Gate until Cove. Where would she have crossed over? Did she come up the off ramp for West Fort Hood headed the wrong way? Thanks

Posted by: J,RN Location: FT. HOOD, TX on Jul 1, 2008 at 07:30 PM
THERE WERE NO PICTURES BY MEDIA AT THE SCENE. LESLIE WAS DRIVING AND SHE WAS ON A HIGHWAY THAT WAS DIVIDED BY A HUGE MEDIAN WITH CONCRETE BARRIERS WHERE ROAD CONSTRUCTION WAS OCCURRING IN THE MIDDLE, TO WIDEN BOTH SIDES. SHE GOT ON THE HIGHWAY GOING IN THE WRONG DIRECTION (I CAN'T FIGURE OUT HOW). SHE PASSED ONE CAR WHO WAS IN THE OUTSIDE LANE; THEN SGT PHILLIPS CAME AROUND A SMALL BEND IN THE INSIDE LANE AND LESLIE HIT HIM HEAD ON. NOTHING HAS BEEN SAID WHETHER DRUGS OR ALCOHOL WERE INVOLVED. IT WAS A HORRIBLE SCENE AND I DID ALL I COULD, BUT I BELIEVE THEY DIED ON IMPACT. AUTOPSIES ARE BEING PERFORMED ACCORDING TO REPORTS. NOTHING WILL EVER MAKE ME FORGET THE SCENE OF THAT ACCIDENT...THE FORCE AT WHICH THEY COLLIDED. ANYWAY I HOPE THIS HELPS. AGAIN, MAY GOD HOLD EACH AND EVERY FAMILY MEMBER INVOLVED IN THIS HORRIFIC ACCIDENT IN THE PALM OF HIS HAND.

Thank-you so much for the information. I appreciate it very much! Does anyone know why she crossed the road??? Is it for sure that Leslie was driving? Or was it Amanda? Were they drinking or anything? I am so sorry for the loss of Of Xantavia and Leslie! I'm so sorry for not mentioning Leslie's name earlier in my first comment! My heart goes out to EVERYONE and their families who loved & love them! May Peace be with you....... Are there any pictures of the accident? If so can you send them to me? If anyone wants to write me and tell me what kind of people Xantavia & Leslie were their more than welcome too! From what I have read,They were good people! I am so sorry for the pain of losing them! Keep them in your heart and the memories....they'll live on forever! May God Bless them and keep them wrapped his arms. May PEACE be with you all, Karla

SGT Phillips was the one hit head one by the young lady in the Mustang. SGT Phillips was NOT being chased by police. The Mustang was traveling at a very high rate of speed when it crossed over into oncoming traffic. Unfotunately SGT Phillips was in the lane the young ladies wanted to use.

Posted by: Anna Location: DFW on Jul 1, 2008 at 12:56 PM
Im assuming the two died instantly. I hope Amanda pulls through. I still can't believe this is true. I feel so badly for Leslie's family as well as the other departed gentleman.

I WAS AT THE SCENE AND SAW THE ACCIDENT. LESLIE AND HER FRIEND,AMANDA, WERE DRIVING THE WRONG WAY DOWN 190 AND HIT THE SOLDIER IN THE CADILLAC HEAD ON IN THE INSIDE LANE. THERE WAS NO POLICE CHASE AND THE SOLDIER WAS GOING THE CORRECT WAY ON 190. IT WAS A TRAGIC ACCIDENT THAT OCCURRED AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED.GOD BLESS ALL INVOLVED.

I am the Aunt of Amanda Elmore, who is in the hospital hanging on to her life. Can anyone please e-mail me with how it happened? I read a few articles from the newspapers but not one of them said why it happened. I would appricate any information on it. I am truely sorry for the loss! Thank-you so much.

Amanda has sustained numerous life threatening injuries. In light of it all she is making slow progress toward recovery. She is still facing numerous surgeries to repair at torn aorta. torn caraotid artery and a ruptured bowel. She has a C1 fracture in her neck, rt clavical and her pelvis is broken in 3 places. Numerous cuts and her entire body is one big bruise. We are still so lucky to have her with us. Our prayers go out to the families and soldiers who lost their loved ones.
