(July 14, 2008)—A Milam County man who tried to break up an early-morning fight outside of a Central Texas bar ended up in intensive care.

Jerry Sowders, 48, of Gause, was in the intensive care unit of a College Station hospital after trying to stop the right early Sunday morning, police told KBTX-TV.

Police said Sowders was trying to stop a fight outside of a bar connected to the Post Oak Mall when someone punched him hard enough to knock him out.

The back of his head hit the concrete when he fell, fracturing his skull.

KBTX reported that police have no suspects in the case.

This man was obviously trying to be a good samaritan (something we need MORE of), and it is a shame that he is hospitalized now. Bar fights are about the most ridiculous of things I've ever seen. If you can't control yourself when you've been drinking (or even if you haven't been drinking) then stay away from public places! Partly why I don't go to bars anymore is because there are too many hot headed idiots out there. I hope this man fully recovers. God Bless him.
