Central Texas Man Charged With DWI Four Times In Two Weeks Save Email Print

(July 15, 2008)--A Central Texas man arrested four times in less than two weeks on suspicion of drunken driving bonded out of a Nebraska jail Tuesday morning.

Otoe County Jail officials said Robert Hood of Caldwell was released Tuesday morning after he posted $200, or 10 percent of the $2,000 bond.

Deb Collins of the Nebraska State Patrol said Hood, 44, was pulled over July 13 for speeding and found to be intoxicated.

Hood faces charges of speeding and driving under the influence.

Collins says records show it was Hood's fourth charge since the beginning of July.

He was arrested on July 4 in Mitchell, S.D., July 7 in Deadwood, S.D., and again on July 8 in Platte County, Wyo.

Collins called the series of arrests, “a very unusual occurrence.”

The justice system is out of control. I think each and every person's situation should be looked at and the circumstances. One size does not fit all. This guy, obviously, has not learned any lesson. Then you see a teenager who has never been in trouble and gets the book slammed at him or her. This is NOT fair. Be sure to elect judges who have compassion and intellect.

All these comments about the same thing that was being discussed last week. A 17 year old was driving drunk and killed someone, but people wanted her to get off easy. Here we have an adult that hasnt killed someone and they want to stick it to him

He can detox in prison and also get his treatment paid for by the taxpayers. Better than him killing someone before they finally send him away. Mix speeding and alcohol and the odds increase he will kill someone soon. 4 times in a month and it looks like he's on the move through 3 states. That's called a bender and deserves no empathy. Bless his heart?? You gotta be kidding me, deciding to drive is not an illness. He knows better and could seek treatment for his illness just as easily as anyone else! I'd say being caught 4 times in such a short period would show even the sickest person the light. Not saying he can't drink, just stop driving when he does!!!

You people all need to understand that alcaholism is an illness. He should NOT be in jail but rather a hospital. If he can't pay for the help, then the taxpayers should if they want to be safe. It's not his fault. Bless his heart.

I think sending old Earl here to Iraq is too dangerous...might shoot one of our soldiers. How about sending Earl and Otis to the border with automatic rifles. If they shoot some illegals..who cares? If the shoot each other ..oh well.. no loss.

I know this sounds mean, but he needs to lose his driving privileges FOREVER! And be locked up for at least a couple of years per DWI. That shows a total disregard for the safety and lives of others.

THIS GOES ON MORE THAN YOU THINK. MY EX-HUSBAND HAS TWO DWI'S AND IS AT A BAR EVERY NIGHT, BUT A WACO JUDGE FINDS HIM FIT TO DRIVE W/ HIS KIDS, BECAUSE HE HASN'T HURT THEM YET. SOMEBODY HAS TO DIE BEFORE REAL PUNISHMENT IS ENFORCED. VERY SAD.

All the courts want is the money as long as he can come up with bail why lock him up, but it seems as if now a days if you get a traffic ticket or something for speeding a little or running a yellow/red light they want to put a warrant out and lock you up, but let this person keep drinking and bonding it's all about the mighty dollar

Get him off the road before he kills an innocent person or persons! Lock him up amd keep him locked up, until he gets the help he so obviously needs. He is lucky he has killed no one yet. He will kill if left to drive. He will drive drunk if not locked up,so LOCK HIM UP to protect others. Simple.Just do it!

Jail time will do this idiot no good. they need to put him out on the street picking up beer cans and trash for miles upon miles in the blistering sun with a 24 pack of beer strapped to his back. obviously if this guy has had 4, hes not going to learn his lesson by spending time in jail. what a moron, just like the people who let him bond out. all of them are idiots.

sadly, the reason IS money. they charge him 4 times, or even 1, for dwi, and they state obviously makes at least $8000, if not exponentially more. lawyers on both sides make money (and have you ever noticed, but most lawmakers ARE lawyers?) and the texas DPS, mclennan and whatever local nevada county, makes money this way, as well as the bondsman. the criminal justice industry isn't about protecting you from criminals or seeing to it that you are free to live your life the way you want, as long as you don't hurt others, it is about making money. that's the reason people with less money, no matter what their crime, are proscutedly freely. it's the reason that people with money get away with whatever they want. and the reason why people like this, with no "real" crime and no money, are let go. it makes the the state and lawyers much, MUCH more money to have it this way, than to protect law-abiding citizens from people who have no respect for us and who would take what we have anytime.

Yeah, he was caught. But until there are convictions there is not much they can do about it. Plus, being in different states probably doesn't help. But if you ever wanted to know the definition of stupid, his picture is next to the word in the dictionary!

This man has a serious problem, and it should be enforced that he go to rehab before he regains his license. Especially before he injures or kills someone.

Niki, ole Earl will be out driving if he has a valid license or not. What Earl needs is some jail time to think it over. He will probably mame or kill someone next time and he will be so drunk and limber that he will not have a scratch. Send ole Earl away. (The report said his first name was Robert but on the mug shot his name is Earl.)

What does putting a teenager that KILLED her cousin in a car accident have to do with a drunk? He should be thrown in jail too. Some people do not learn their lesson, just like this West teenager. She was out getting drunk right after the incident. Unbelievable.

I cant fathom why this man is out on the streets being given another opportunity to drink and kill someone. Is this what the judicial system is wanting that why taxpayers can spend more money on a big trial.....it makes no sense as to why he is a free man.....It is idiots like this that need to be locked up and throw away the key. What happened to 3 strikes your out...personally I think one time and your out.....

My question would be how in the heck did he get out on bond the 4th time? They should make him sit in jail until they reach a decision on his fate. How could we be surprised if he goes out and kills someone while driving drunk? He obviously hasn't gotten the message...and shame on us for letting him go.
