(July 17, 2008)--The owners of a swimming hole in Fort Worth have closed the recreational lake as health authorities check for a waterborne parasite.
The Tarrant County Public Health Department Thursday confirmed the voluntary closure of Burger's Lake as investigators try to determine if the spring-fed lake is linked to a waterborne illness that can cause diarrhea - cryptosporidiosis.
Health experts say at least eight adults who swam in the lake, since June 21, have contracted the disease and two had to be hospitalized.
Laboratory results are pending on water from the lake, which is part of a 30-acre park.
