Stolen Items From Waco Home Valued At More Than $50K Save Email Print

(July 19, 2008)- Waco police are looking for suspects in a home burglary Friday.

A family living in the area of 2900 block of Colcord Avenue called police at about 3 p.m. Friday, saying their home was broken into .

Police say the suspects evidently broke into the house through a window sometime between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The value of the items stolen from the home is estimated at about $50,000.

DMG- I totally agree with you that the city needs to take that $600,000 that they are paying for that ridiculous fence at Cameron Park and use the funds to step up fighting crime!!

It is getting so bad, I think it should be legal to booby trap our homes without worry of punitive charges or lawsuits to stop this. After all, it is in self-defense.

Time for us all to "lock and load". It seems WPD isn't making burglary or much else a priority at this time. The city needs to take that $600,000 that they are paying for that ridiculous fence at Cameron Park and use the funds to step up fighting crime. Us hardworking people are getting fed up with these worthless wastes of a pulse & respiration stealing us blind.

LN- you are right about it not being that much. I figure if you have a 3 or 4 bedroom house then that is about that much money. Especially if each room has a TV, vcr, dvd player, bedroom set, clothes, jewelry, and even the bathroom sets are even high now a days. I just hate when hard working people have things taken from them by someone lazy and looking for a quick FEW bucks. I know it probably feels like you have been violated, sorry. I think we need harsher laws and NOSIER neighbors!

Trying to help out a small business. Big Mistake!! I'll never do it again. All I got was a big headache and a lot of sentimental one-of-a-kind items taken. The low-life thugs even took my Army Commendation Medal. I hope they are rotting in jail for something because they sure didn't catch them for my home burglary. It wasn't $50K worth, but it sure felt like it.

Unfortunately- the Waco PD is a joke when it comes to crime in the city. Hope they had good insurance. Waco cops cant be bothered with residential crimes when they can be generating income for the city by writing petty traffic tickets. Waco has one of the highest crime rates per capita in the nation- check it out for yourself!- Mostly due to an incompetent and uncaring police & detective force, My house was broken into last year and I had to call and leave 5 messages for the detective to finally get a return call. No news on uspects or anything- after 10 breakins!! -8 other houses were hit in the 5 weeks prior (we were #9)and Neighbor was #10 -Police gave no warning- no mailbox notices-no news about this to warn neighborhood! Ridiculous!- a phone call or Simple flyer is all it takes!- Waco PD= incompetent Joke!

$50,000.00 is not really that much. Go through your own house room by room and add it up. How much to replace all of your furniture and everything. Heck, if you had a few plasma tv's it would be over $5,000.00 right there. And all an alarm does is MAYBE scare them away. If not equipped with a cell phone dialer all they need to do is cut the phone line and no one is the wiser. Besides, Waco PD response to alarms is quite slow due to all the alarms false alarm history. Hope the crooks are caught. Another reason to mark your own items with a unique number. If it shows up at a pawn shop or is seized in a bust you can prove it is yours.

What in the heck did they steel? If I had something worth that much I would make sure it was someplace safe. What, did they have $50,000 worth of crack in there?

Anyone who lives between the 2900 and 3500 block of Colcord must at least have an alarm system. That area has been a crime hot spot for the last 25 years. I am sorry that their house was broken into because I have been there. But, I am sorry to say the chances are high you will never get your stuff back. I had a one-of-a-kind antique clock stolen, and I have never seen it again since it was taken from my home back in 1998. I even gave the PD a picture of it, but it didn't help. Chances are if you had anyone in your home recently doing some kind of work or maintenance, those are the likely culprits who came back and broke in. I know that is what happened to me. Within 6 months of some fly-by-night company doing some work in my house, it was broken into not once, but twice.

I feel sorry for the victims but if I lived around 29th and Colcord, I wouldn't feel safe have anything of value in my house. The "Hood" is starting to spread that (EVERY) direction FAST.
