(April 10, 2006)—Vice President Dick Cheney arrived in Waco late Monday morning for an appearance on behalf of GOP congressional candidate Van Taylor, who’s challenging incumbent Democratic Congressman Chet Edwards in the November election.
Cheney is speaking at a fundraiser for Taylor Monday at the Waco Hilton.
Security was tight as the Vice President’s motorcade traveled from the Texas State Technical College airport to downtown Waco.
A group of protesters has gathered outside the hotel where Cheney is speaking.
Taylor defeated Tucker Anderson in the Republican Primary in March for the right to challenge Edwards in the GOP-friendly 17th Congressional District.

Cheney made a similar appearance on behalf of Edward’s 2004 Republican challenger, former State. Rep. Arlene Wohlgemuth that raised more than $300,000 for Wohlgemuth’s campaign.
Edwards survived the challenge from Wohlgemuth in the redrawn-district that was designed to ensure a GOP victory.
Members of some activist groups are expected to demonstrate outside of the Waco Hilton, where Cheney will speak.
