(August 20, 2008)—Waco’s population increases Wednesday as Baylor hosts its annual move-in day.

Baylor University expects to welcome its second-largest freshman class in university history. An anticipated 3,000+ first-year students will begin their move into campus residence halls on Wednesday and Thursday.

Baylor move-in days tend to be a massive; in addition to all of those first year students and their family members swarming the campus this week, more than 1,300 volunteers from 53 departments, organizations and churches will be on hand to assist the students and their families.

The total number of students who will be living on campus, an estimated 4,750, will be the most ever to reside on campus at Baylor.

The number, which includes more than 1,700 upper-division students, is an increase of 26 percent over last year's number of sophomores, juniors and seniors who lived on campus and the fifth straight year that number has risen.

Baylor Move-In Day is often the "Final Family Fling" of the summer for the families of incoming freshmen and kicks off Welcome Week, a Baylor tradition since 1974, where freshmen take part in such orientation activities such as a picnic with the University President and a concert before classes begin Monday.
