(August 21, 2008)—A grand jury Thursday in Schleicher County handed up three new indictments against members of the polygamist group whose secluded West Texas compound state child welfare authorities raided in April.
Schleicher County Clerk Peggy Williams confirmed the grand jury issued indictments against three individuals Thursday, but would not say who they were or what the indictments alleged.
Women in prairie dresses and a spokesman for the church, Willie Jessop, testified Thursday, the third time the grand jury has met to discuss members of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
In July, sect leader Warren Jeffs and four followers were indicted on charges of sexual assault of a child.
A sixth member was charged with failing to report alleged abuse.
