(August 21, 2008)—Baylor University is among 14 Texas colleges and universities recognized by the National Wildlife Federation Thursday for “becoming greener models for the wider society.”
The schools are listed in the NWF’s “Campus Environment 2008 Report Card.”
“The 2008 report finds that campus leaders across the country value sustainability,” said Julian Keniry, NWF’s senior director of campus and community leadership.
“They speak about it, plan for it, hire staff to support it, and the campuses they lead are steadily becoming greener models for the wider society,”
“These schools in Texas are showing that you don’t have to sacrifice your other goals to achieve broad-based sustainability.”
Other Texas schools recognized are Cedar Valley College in Lancaster, Concordia University in Austin, Eastfield College in Mesquite, Grayson County College in Denison, Huston-Tilotson University in Austin, North Lake College in Irving, Palo Alto College in San Antonio, Texas A&M University-Commerce, Texas A&M University-Galveston, the University of Dallas, the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, the University of Texas-Arlington and the University of Texas-El Paso.
Baylor was singled out for plans for more recycling of waste materials and for green landscaping.
Nationwide, more than 240 schools were recognized in the report.

This recognition is a joke. The only green Baylor is concerned with is the grass. During this summer's drought, the acres and acres of grass at this campus was as green as green gets. How can they not consider this waste of water as a huge violation of this "award"?
