(August 28,2008)— Police arrested three suspects Thursday morning after a shooting at one Temple apartment complex and a standoff at another nearby complex that led to a neighborhood evacuation and lockdowns at two nearby schools.
Twenty to 30 police officers maintained a perimeter around the Beverly Arms apartment complex where the three suspects were barricaded in an apartment after the shooting at the nearby Emerald Green apartment complex at 620 West Elm.
The three surrendered without incident around 10:15 a.m. Thursday, ending a standoff that started around 8:30 a.m. when Temple officers responded to the report of the shooting and found the apartment manager lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the chest.
He was taken to Scott & White Hospital.
Information about his condition was not immediately available.
Witnesses told officers they saw three men run from the complex to the neighboring Beverly Arms complex.
Residents there told officers the three men were armed and that they had run into an apartment.
Officers evacuated the complex and nearby homes.
Lockdowns were instituted at Holy Trinity Catholic High School and at Temple High School.
The Temple High school lockdown was lifted just before 10 a.m.
