Star High School Running Back Charged In Armed Robbery Save Email Print

A | A | A

(August 28, 2008)—Star La Vega High School running back Christopher Dantae Parr, 17, was in the McLennan County Jail Thursday evening, charged in connection with the armed robbery of a 19-year-old man.

Lonnie Sawyer told police he was robbed at gunpoint around 10:40 p.m. Tuesday in the 5200 block of Concord Road in Bellmead.

He told Bellmead officers the robber pulled up in a car, got out, and displayed a large black handgun.

Parr was arrested on Wednesday in Bellmead.

Parr is a junior at La Vega.

The school’s head football coach declined comment on the arrest.

Parr was ordered held in lieu of $75,000 bond.

piece of S@#T !! Lock him up now and save some poor person in the future that he will KILL!! McCain for PRESIDENT!!!

If you want to succeed in life one of the first things you do is dress for success. And when you do dress nicely it tends to change your behavior for the better, on average. There are scientific studies that show when you are dressed nice and have yourself looking good with a decent haircut and are clean you not only look professional, but you act that way. IF ONLY a whole lot of todays youth were taught that instead of looking like scum and have there undies showing. And don't give me the crap about it "being the style"! Showing your undies and having to hold up your pants because they are so baggy no only looks STUPID, it in no way appears professional. If a job applicant came to me for a job dressed in that manner they would not be hired. If they showed up for work dressed as such they would be sent home to change or not come back to work. Businesses can not afford to have their personnel dress like idiots.

What a WASTE! I would like to ask the coaches to not allow the team to wear Parr's 12 on their helmets as a sign of support for a fallen comrade. This is a gesture for someone who has fallen and not to be used because this kid can not resist the temptation to commit a crime. Parr is a very good athlete but a terrible student. He is consistently sent to AEP during (not football season) school year for disruptive behavior. He has hit a female student intimidated other students and faculty yet he still gets to suit up on Fridays. The coaches should use this as a way to send a message to the other players that nobody is above anyone else on the team. And you will be held accountable for your actions. Sure losing Parr might hurt their chances of a title, but there are several other young men who are ready to give it their all for Williams. If they let him back on the team it is a show of poor leadership and total lack of respect for the rest of the team. Stereotypes are base on reality!

To Parent/Waco, maybe you should re-read what I wrote. Are you as uneducated as the boy who robbed a guy for his shoes and hat?

Posted by: Anonymous Location: Marlin on Sep 2, 2008 at 01:17 PM
To Parent in Waco, were did you learn how to read "La Vega"? I said, is this kid a "Junior" in high school, not freaking junior high. Talk about putting your foot in your mouth.....

Posted by: Me Location: Central Texas on Sep 1, 2008 at 12:35 PM
Parent/Waco, to answer your question ("...since when were Junior High students 17 years old?"), it's when they attend G.L. Wiley.

Posted by: jb Location: waco on Sep 1, 2008 at 12:28 AM
you people are morons "let him play, he should go here or there" he messed up now he should pay screw what he wears and who he hangs out with if he did it he did it. people talk about peer pressure but if you know its wrong and it might bite you in the end why would you want to risk it

Posted by: dirtyd Location: tx on Aug 31, 2008 at 09:01 PM
I'm sure he will just enroll at Baylor and get on the winning team there.. ha hah hah

Posted by: Anonymous Location: Austin on Aug 31, 2008 at 08:28 PM
What I am wondering is when are they going to require courses in high school to let these young people know what happens when you grow up and get in the real world? High School is about learning to read and write. However, it will not prepare you for what is really out there. Do it now, as our young people are going to jail faster and committing more crimes than ever before. They are crying out for someone to stop them. So stop them

Good ideal. Good choice. Good looking. McCain, will have my vote!

Posted by: Mom Location: Bellmead on Aug 31, 2008 at 08:55 AM
This kid should be punished for what he has done. I'm scared to send my kids to this school as it is. Now, La Vega and Bellmead have more added to their bad rep.

Posted by: Mac Location: TX on Aug 30, 2008 at 09:35 PM
Star football player, how about a fallen star, or what if the gun went off, he could have been a shooting star! Society has a home for these types of stars! Prison bound! What you say Sam Bam?

Posted by: george Location: Kosse on Aug 30, 2008 at 08:18 PM
What's all the hype about? Another thug doing a crime only difference is he can throw a ball? Who Cares-- he can go to jail and learn to run from the guys who will "braid" his hair for him.

Posted by: Parent Location: Waco on Aug 30, 2008 at 07:23 PM
To Anonymous in Marlin, since when were Junior High students 17 years old? Are you an IDIOT?

Posted by: Are you serious? Location: At home on Aug 30, 2008 at 02:19 PM
L.G....do you really talk like that or are you joking? I don't think some fans want to risk being shot while attending a high school football game. You people crack me up!!! You do the crime you do the time!!!

Posted by: CA Location: Texas on Aug 30, 2008 at 10:53 AM
He hasn't had a trial yet. All the particulars haven't been brought out. Let's wait and see. His clothes or hair style have nothing to do with it, It's his Character. Course we all know that if anything interfers with football in Tx, This State as we know it will crash and burn.

Posted by: S Location: Robinson on Aug 30, 2008 at 12:11 AM
Hey "Anon", are you an idiot? "Temple Fan" was obviously using sarcastic humor and you just don't get it.

Posted by: james Location: valley milla on Aug 29, 2008 at 09:08 PM
Could it be that he was framed by a rival football team/coach. If so, whos next, to miss the Friday night lights. Playoffs will be here before you know it.

Posted by: Sam Bam Location: Tx on Aug 29, 2008 at 08:24 PM
Maybe,he can play ball for the prison system! They love them young and dumb!

Posted by: The Patriot Location: Texas on Aug 29, 2008 at 07:13 PM
To T in Bellmead.. "ease up, he's a kid who made a bad choice"? Are you serious? He didn't steal candy from a store but pulled a gun on the victim. Yeah, Armed Robbery (a felony) is a "really" bad choice. I doubt anyone posting here has had kids charged with armed robbery. I know mine never have had nothing more than a speeding ticket. Maybe you should be pointing the fingers at yourself....

Posted by: C Location: Bellmead on Aug 29, 2008 at 06:35 PM
To anonymous and anyone else out there go to H@#! this young man's hair looks this way because he normally wears his hair braided, and i am not racist i know this kid and the gun was not real so that's why i did not show anything about Lonnie they knew each other so when yall get all the facts then you'll see Line 6 anonymous you need Jesus

Posted by: Anonymous Location: Marlin on Aug 29, 2008 at 03:31 PM
This kids a Junior in high school, looks like he is 30 . He must be from the "out of the Hood" program. Maybe lavega picked him up off the streets so that they could have a better chance of winning against Marlin tonight.

Posted by: Texas Location: Texas on Aug 29, 2008 at 03:08 PM
Now that looks like a fine young man that any mama can be proud of. I bet he just got mixed up with the wrong crowd and didnt have a choice. He probably has Jesus all up in his heart and the devil in his back pocket. Poor thing. I hope his cell mates can see what a fine upstanding citizen he is. Better get a haircut though. Wouldnt want the bunkmate to mistake him for a girl.( yes, i'm being sarcastic.)

Posted by: Joe Location: Waco on Aug 29, 2008 at 02:43 PM
He is black so they will claim racism and buy him a hamburger and give him a parade.

I was proud to be a pirate and proud of the little town I lived in called Bellmead,I am no longer proud to say I was raised there and went to school there. It has become overun with drugs and trashy people who have no respect for themselves or others.

Posted by: Michelle Location: Central TX on Aug 29, 2008 at 01:00 PM
Trying to steal a hat and shoes? Looking at that hair, the hat wouldn't fit. I'm sure his family is proud, were they not able to buy him these things for school? A handgun, a teenager, could have been a deadly combination.

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 29, 2008 at 12:13 PM
To C location; You are a racist moron! He is now old enough to be tried as an adult! Hope he gets the max. You should pray for the victim not the actor stupid! You must of went to school at G.L.Wiley! Pull your head out and stop your silly crying! He's a thug and you are ignorant racist idiot! Looking forward to his move to TDCJ! Now cry some more idiot! What about the guy who had a damn gun pulled on him, what about his money, what about his mental state because of this thug! Would you feel better if this thug had shot, killed and got away with this! Do not know you who pray to, but hope he/she is not listening! Chris, may you live a while in hell for your actions!

Posted by: Anonymous Location: Bellmead on Aug 29, 2008 at 11:51 AM
OK so he made a mistake, does that really mean that everyone in Bellmead are thugs and drug dealers? As far as I know EVERY school in the Waco area has had it's share of problems (including Midway and China Spring). It's ashame that this boy with so much talent has ruined his chances of improving his life for something so stupid. I hope other kids in the area can learn from his mistakes.

Posted by: Wonder Who Location: McGregor on Aug 29, 2008 at 11:28 AM
If he had been from McGregor his picture would have never made the paper. The Athletic Directors Quarterback son robbed a house in McGregor and you never saw his picture in the Waco paper or the McGregor Mirror.

Bellmead has a hard enough time making people believe that we are a good community. And how can you blame people when things like this happen. This kid is just that, A KID. You cannot help but wonder what is happening to the community of Bellmead without wondering where all the parents of these KIDS are. RIGHT? We all make mistakes, and that is where we, as parents, have a responsibility to help out kids correct their mistakes and not make them again. He should be punished, I agree. Maybe he will not make this mistake again. And too bad for the team. He really let them down. KEEP IT UP BOYS! YOU CAN BE CHAMPIONS ANYWAY!!!

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 29, 2008 at 09:32 AM
To Anonymous, first comment posted here: I agree with you. I was raised in Elm Mott and used to be able to leave my car and house unlocked. Lacy Lakeview is becoming the same way. Little thugs that should be home in bed are running the streets sreaming at cars as they go by or vandalizing property. Parents are responsible for their children and no you can't always shadow them you have to trust them. Kids are going to make mistakes...some learn from them and some don't. These days little thugs have no conscience and it's only going to get worse.

Posted by: T Location: Bellmead on Aug 29, 2008 at 09:20 AM
What he did has nothing to do with the way his hair is or the way he wears his clothes. Steretypes... thats all it is.. just b/c u have long hair and wear your clothes baggy your a thug.. that is absurd. He is 17 and mad a bad choice it doesnt reflect on Bellmead it reflects on him. Take a look around the kids in Hewitt, Waco, Robinson, Lorena they are doing the same thing but wait they havent got caught.. So ease up, he's a kid who made a bad choice.. He did his crime let him do his time.. While your pointing fingers at him you have 4 more pointing at yourself.. Check your OWN kids before you judge.. Bellmead is great! We are not THUGS it is a community pulling together for the sake of the kids...

the only thing this clown is missing is the red nose and long floppy shoes.

Posted by: Johnny Location: Bellmead on Aug 29, 2008 at 08:53 AM
The head coach isn't going to say anything because his own son is a trouble maker.

Posted by: Marlin Location: Texas on Aug 29, 2008 at 08:36 AM
I'll wait to comment until the trial finds him innocent or guilty...then again....just a thought or two: Remember the reason there are a disportionate number of black males in prison for violent crimes isn't that more black males commit violent criminal acts than other races, noooooo...IT'S RACISM!!!! Obviously!!!!! In this particuler case, the look fits the act. No wonder Jesse Jackson said that at night when he's walking down a dark street he heaves a sigh of relieve if the person following him is white...obviously a racist comment if I EVER HEARD ONE! Of course this guy could be innocent....or GUILTY AS CHARGED. Either way he needs to clean his appearance up a bit.... These guys that look this way think they are BAD and TOUGH???? Yeah right, let a few Airborne Veterans (like me) discuss it with him when the fools try to rob me or another Airborne Veteran.... LOL.....

Posted by: anoyn Location: waco on Aug 29, 2008 at 08:14 AM
This just shows how parenting is not involved with this kid. He has everything going for him as a football player, but no support from home.

What a shame. The pirates still can win without him. Im from bellmead & a graduate of LV & am proud to be. Every school has their thugs even the schools who say they dont.

Posted by: Anonymous Location: waco on Aug 29, 2008 at 06:17 AM
Wheres his line now? Because he is a good athlete, he was allowed to get away with to much instead of being treated like any other teen. Now its to late or is it. Who's the criminal him, the parents, or the school? What are we teaching these kids? None seem to know there limitations.

Posted by: Joe Location: Waco on Aug 28, 2008 at 11:28 PM
more likely he will play for UT, LSU or Nebraska.

Posted by: find the real killers oj on Aug 28, 2008 at 08:35 PM

Looks like this jerk can join the ranks of Romance or Romonce Taylor (whatever the jerks name is). But never mind he is a good kid and didn't mean to rob the man. We should give him 20 more chances so he can be a good roll model for our youth.

I am really saddened to hear about Chris, i am the parent of former LaVega students, and i just cannot believe that this young man with all his talent had to go and do such a stupid act. God bless you Chris

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 28, 2008 at 05:29 PM
Here is another hoodlum to give La Vega and Bellmead a bad name. I used to be proud to be from this area, but as time goes on and trash and drugs and criminals continue to take over, I am becoming ashamed.
