(August 28, 2008)—Cherie Townsend, who’s more than 30-year career in juvenile justice includes previous positions with the Texas Youth Commission, will become the TYC’s executive director effective Oct. 1.
TYC Conservator Richard Nedelkoff named Townsend to the post Thursday.
“Cherie brings a wealth of background and expertise in juvenile justice, having established a national reputation as an agent of change,” he said.
“I’m pleased someone of Cherie’s caliber is joining us at TYC to help lead the agency forward, and I feel very strongly that she will provide the agency with the leadership needed to complete our reform efforts.”
During her 18-year tenure with the TYC, Townsend served as director of community services where she developed and updated programs to meet the changing needs of youth and families and to improve results and better manage at-risk youth in communities.
