(August 29, 2008)—Two Waco teenagers were in custody after a man who discovered his house had been burglarized made a citizen’s arrest.
The resident detained Anthony Renee Perez, 17, in the 2400 block of South 24th Street in Waco, police said, after a burglary just before 4 p.m. Thursday in the 2600 block of South 25th Street.
Police said the man discovered his house had been broken into and spotted two teenagers leaving the backyard of a neighbor’s home.
When he yelled at the teenagers to stop, police said, they fled toward South 24th Street.
The man got into his car and gave chase.
He detained Perez until police officers arrived.
Officers later searched a house where Perez and his 15-year-old step brother lived in the 2500 block of South 26th Street.
They recovered items stolen from the man’s house as well as from another residence three doors down.
Perez was taken to the McLennan County Jail.
The minor was taken to the juvenile detention center.
Police said he was already on probation for burglary of a habitation.
