Texas Columnist Won’t Face Charges Save Email Print

(August 29, 2008)—A columnist for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram who left his 11-year-old son in a restaurant parking lot after an argument won’t be charged, a prosecutor said Friday.

Betty Arvin of the Tarrant County District Attorney's Office says prosecutors didn't feel the case reached the level to file charges.

Dave Lieber, 51, surrendered to authorities earlier this week and was later freed after posting $4,000 bond.

Lieber declined to comment Friday, and his attorney was not immediately available.

His arrest stemmed from an Aug. 13 incident in which Lieber told his son to walk home from a Watauga fast-food restaurant four blocks from their home.

Lieber soon returned for him, but a customer who witnessed the dispute had called 911.

Police in the Fort Worth suburb said that his son was trying to get into the car as Lieber drove away.

11 yrs old, having to walk 4 blocks? Oh the inhumanity of it! Please! Anon you are right we don’t know the rest of the story. I think dads bond should be returned to him. If he had disciplined this kid he'd have CPS all over his case, so he made the little snot walk AND returned to give him a ride. My dad put me out once, it was the loneliest walk of my life and I was good for a long time afterwards. No charges filed, no busy body’s to call in, those were the good old days.

What we don't hear is what his son did. People are so quick to jump to conclusions. I could understand if it was a young child, but there are so many snot nosed teenagers now a days that no one can really know the whole story.
