A | A | A

(September 5, 2008)—The Texas Department of Public Safety has released the name of the woman who was killed in an early morning accident Tuesday.

Rhonda Latrice Harold, 37, of Waco was killed when she was struck by a vehicle while walking along Interstate 35 Tuesday morning.

Harold was the daughter of Bellmead Police Chief Robert Harold.

Troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety say the Harold was walking along northbound Interstate 35 in Lacy-Lakeview, north of Waco, when she was struck by Nissan pickup truck near the Crest Drive exit at mile marker 342.

The driver of the Nissan remained on the scene following the accident.

No tickets were issued by officers.

The accident happened around 4:15 a.m.

DPS cleared the scene shortly after 6 a.m.

Harold's body has been sent to the Dallas Medical Examiner for autopsy.

~~but in all fairness what in the world was she thinking walking down the side of the highway at 4:00 in the morning? Why doesn't someone answer that question instead of trying to place blame on someone else~~ Who cares? What business is it of yours or anyone else's why someone was out at whatever hour. THAT DOES NOT CHANGE THE OUTCOME, OR THE FACT THAT HER CHILDREN HAVE LOST THEIR MOTHER. God. People, please think. It DOES NOT MATTER why she was out at anytime of the day or night. The ONLY time we should question why someone is out at a particular time is if this were a CHILD out at 4 a.m. A grown woman or man can go anywhere at anytime- there's no curfew on grown folks. Another thing I'd like to know is if you got information about why she was out at 4 a.m., would that change her deceased status AT ALL? Would it make you feel BETTER that she was deceased if she were out for the "wrong reasons" (according to you)? Would you sympathize if her reason was legit?

All that the person was trying to say is that darker people should wear lighter clothing. What is the big deal about making a comment like that. He was stating a fact. It was a horrible accident that happened, but in all fairness what in the world was she thinking walking down the side of the highway at 4:00 in the morning? Why doesn't someone answer that question instead of trying to place blame on someone else? The family will be in my prayers. I know what it is like to lose a family member that was at such a young age.

If these comments are viewed by the station prior to being posted then why would they let someone so heartless make a comment in ANY way to upset a family that is going through something this painful. Whomever is in charge over the posts that are sent in PLEASE take off all the UGLY posts right away. IF you don't you are showing your true colors and bring the station a bad name. Now don't you feel stupid.

I am a friend of the Harold family. My prayers go out to you in this time of need. God has a better place for her now. To everyone else: God sees all so be careful what you say.

Does is really matter what color the person is??? I mean come on...A person lost their life, the family and friends of this woman are suffering and grieving in their lose, the driver who hit her will have to live with that for the rest of their life...Show some compassion. "Me" why don't you try to be a little more sentitve??? Have you ever stopped to think that maybe just maybe the family as well as friends might be reading the comments. To the family and Friends....I am so sorry for your lose.

EVERYONE should wear light colored clothing if walking at night.

Posted by: Candy Location: Waco on Sep 6, 2008 at 03:36 AM
My prayers go out to the family. But what the heck was she doing out walking on the side of the road at 4:15 in the morning any one know. And it doesnt matter what color they are but if you are going to be walking late night or in the early morining you should wear a bright color so you can be seen...

Posted by: S Location: west texas on Sep 6, 2008 at 01:56 AM
It doesn't matter what color someone is. When it is dark, it is hard to see period. My husband was hit by a car while walking along the shoulder of a highway- he is as white as can be. (His car broke down in the middle of nowhere) People also don't plan their outfits thinking that they are going to be walking at night. I guess we should all pack bright, flashy clothes just in case we have to walk at night. To the family, I am sorry to hear of your loss. You will all be in my thoughts.

Just know when you are making ugly comments, she had children- who are old enough to read- they just lost their mother, and should they come across some of the hateful things being said, what does that do? They've lost their mother. Please, try to say something respectful, or nothing at all.

I too am truly sorry to hear about the death of Chief Harold's daughter, i am a long time resident of Bellmead and i know chief Harold and his wife, but never had the opportunity to meet this daughter, my heart goes out to the family, and also to Ms. Cynthia, i went to the web site and read your story about your son and my heart goes out to you for all you went through, and it's just my opinion but to me it sounds like murder by the McGregor Police Dept.

Posted by: Me Location: Central Texas on Sep 5, 2008 at 07:56 PM
What?! Because I suggested they wear lighter-colored clothing to make them easier to see at night?! They ARE difficult to see at night. I have perfect vision and have almost hit them many times (and not purposely, either.)

Posted by: killeen on Sep 5, 2008 at 03:58 PM
Cynthia- i have read your story... and all the others on that page, interesting stuff there. Hopefully they find the truth in your son's death. Back to this story, "Round here" has a point... dont' jump to conclusions people.

Wow , There are some heartless people out there. It has nothing to do with black or white. just last week a mother and her 2 kids and friend were killed. And they were white. My prayers are with Chief Harold and his family in this difficult time.

"Me" in Central Texas.....you are a very oathetic person and make a lot of people sick to their stomachs to read your racial comments.....good thing you never use your real name

Posted by: Me Location: Central Texas on Sep 5, 2008 at 02:14 PM
Blacks should wear light-colored clothing when walking on/near roadways at night, they are difficult to see. I'm being serious... this is a real problem.

I think the world (some people)is/are in a 'very' sad situation, to 'assume' anything? We lost a person,a human being in an accident. I think 'WE' need to be praying for all concerned! 'LORD' forgive 'US' of 'our' sins!!

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 3, 2008 at 08:18 AM
Cynthia Robinson, thank you for sharing your story. I hope you dont mind I shared it with my friends on another website. My prayers are with you. As for this story I saw this accident when I was taking my husband to work, the area she was hit in is very dark. You have TSTC on one side, and a residential neighborhood onthe other side of 35. There is a convience store on the west side of 35 from the accident site. This neighborhood "so far" is very quiet and respectable so I figure she wasnt "working" the interstate. What I havent been able to locate on the news is anything regarding a later accident at the same location on the south bound side of 35 involving a motorcycle, it looked to be a bad accident. No reason to bring it up except for the location. It was a very bad day at I-35 and Crest, exit 342a.

Maybe, "Anonymous," she works an early shift and couldn't afford either a car or the gas to drive it! Or perhaps, "Anonymous," she was leaving an abusive partner, maybe she was out of diapers and didn't have a car to go get them...there are SO many reasons why that woman was out there at that time of the day or night. I think it's presumptious and rude for you to just automatically assume that she was out there doing something on the negative side. I believe that speaks volumes about your character!

Horrible accident, my prayers are with the driver and victim.
