Teenager Arrested After Middle School Knife Threat Save Email Print

(September 5, 2008)—A16-year-old student at Waco’s A. J. Moore Academy was arrested at the school Friday, a day after police say he displayed a hunting knife and threatened middle school students who were picking on his younger brother.

Waco police said the teenager went to pick up his younger brother Thursday at La Vega Junior High School.

When he learned other students had picked on the younger boy, police said, he got out of his car armed with a hunting knife and verbally threatened them.

Then he and his brother left.

No one was hurt.

It wasn’t clear whether the incident happened on school grounds.

Waco police arrested the teenager Friday morning and took him to the Bill Logue Juvenile Justice Center.

Bullies are cowards. They only feel good about themselves when they can taunt or harm others. By destroying another's self esteem gives the bully a thrill. That's the only way a loser knows to operate. There should be no tolerance for bullies anywhere or anyplace.

We have to remind our kids that they are being bullied b/c the others are jealous. That bulling crap can ruin a childs self-esteem. NO matter what they are picking on them for it is not true and the other kids is just trying to get some attention. It is just not fair the way the bullies come out ahead!

To Brenda. Blaming the victims for Columbine because of bullying is like a defense attorney blaming a rape victim because of how she was dressed, spoke, or acted. Do you really want to go along that line of thought???

It would be interesting to know what the other kids did. For all any of us know they called the younger brother ugly and that is the "picking on" and the older one may have shown up threatening to kill them. Sorry Brenda the Columbine shooting was because two people decided to kill others. Nobody made them kill. People these days are wusses if they can't take bullying.

It's a shame that it came to this because nothing was done about the bullying. It's funny how the parents are never notified by the school when things like this happen. We always find out through the media. Bullies need to be punished at the schools!!

The kids doing the 'bullying' are very lucky the other kid only had a knife. In the world we live in today, it seems children can get guns easier than adults can! I am sure the little jerks doing the bullying will not be punished, and although THEY were threatened, THEY were the ones that started it, THEY did not get punished. So what did the little punks learn? They can continue to get away with pushing other kids around, cuz the law is on their side. Completely heartbreaking!

There should be some type of system in all school on Bullies. I mean remember the Columbine Shooting it was all because of bullies and noone would listen to the victims. They tend to build anger and think with weapons they can solve everything. Please we need a new system Teacher please listen..

there was an instance were I being the olders had to stand up to some bullies that were bothering my little brother. So I say it was wrong for taking the knife but good job Big Bro!! and of course the BULLIES ARE FREE!!!!!!..Come one WPD!!

that boy was doing what he had to do. to protect his brother. wh does the school system allow BULLYING to get out of hand. children to be able to go to school and not have to worry about be picked on. It sad that times have change, when i was growing up. the children that are being bullied will fight back. enough is enough!! STOP THE BULLYING IN OUR SCHOOLS!!!

Bullying has been around forever. I remember it being bad back in the 70's and I am sure its worse now. Something needs to be done, of course I heard that in 74 too. Personally if I was the police chief I would go down to wherever he is being kept, Open the door, slap him on the back and say, good job, now go on home...

This had to have occured on the school grounds for the older brother to be arrested for threatening with a knife then leaving. So why was nothing done to the bullies on school grounds? Bullying in itself is harassment and threatening and not allowed in places of employment. So why do school administrators turn a blind eye when it comes to children? Bully kids don't pick on a victim once, it's usually an everyday occurrence. Hit these bully parents and the schools where it hurts....the pocket book!

my kid was being threatened to be jumped by 4 girls...... she fought a few of them one by one...... she got in BIG TROUBLE for fighting but you know what? i didnt care.... the school chose to ignore her being threatened. she beat the mess out the two she fought they havent bothered her since then. those 4 girls went unpunished because mine threw the first punch ......

What happened to the kids that were doing to bullying? He was just trying to defend his brother. I want to see the kids that were doing the actual bullying, which leads to so many suicides in school districts today, to get what they deserve as well. Don't be too hard on the kid that was trying to defend his brother from this horrible human act that so many kids think makes them cool to pick on other kids. School is where you send your kids to learn. Not to send your kids and teach them to harm other kids and make them feel so insecure that this sort of think happens. Parents need to teach their kids that bullying is wrong and they need to be disciplined just as much as the kid that is trying to defend themselves against this.

It's great that there is a zero tolerance for this type of stuff.Weapons-that's serious. But my experience has been that the schools do absolutely NOTHING to help kids out that are being threatened/picked on while in school. If you defend yourself against someone, you get into just as much trouble if not more than the person/people causing the problems. My son was attached inside the restroom by bullies, did not even hit one person, came out with a black eye and bruises all over him. He got Saturday detention. The other kids got the same. What kind of justice is that? Again, was attacked on school property by a bully he tried to warn off--black eye again. I asked to file charges on the kid, police never did one thing. I tried repeatedly to have charges brought...never did one thing. We felt like going to the school and letting them know "If you can't stop this crap, we will". The school warned us, we would have charges filed on us! It can be frustrating.

This is truly a mess, i hate the fact the older brother had to result to banishing a knife to try to help his brother, but i'm glad that he was trying to help protect him from these damned kids that want to bully other kids, that's why you read and hear about teens killing themselves because noone wants to listen to their cries of being bullied, as if it doesn't exit, and it still does, kids can be very cruel to the point that the child who is being bullied would rather die than tell someone who he or she knows will just turn a deaf hear, so kudos to the brother for trying to help i just wished he would have went about it in a different manner, and i pray that the little brother will be o.k. and that the schools will do something about the bullying especially if it is brought to their attention. Just my opinion

Even though it was a good thing to stand up for his brother, I think that threatening the persons involved with a hunting knife was a little extreme. I do believe that the school should be more strict with bullies especially now a days when kids and teens take matters into their own hands. Nobody ever wins in the end.

Bet you those kids will think twice from now on ! Now don't get me wrong ,I don't condone violence. HOWEVER, those bullies should be held accountable as well for thier actions.

Yeah, Thats About Right. The bullies usuaully get away with alot of stuff. Too Bad for the one trying to defend himself. In this case, the older brother was just trying to defend his little brother. It was a verbal warning with a promise and no physical violence occurred. Thankfully.

The school would not have done a thing to protect the boy from the bullies.... Although what the older brother did was wrong, something should have been done to the bullies...

My son was the victim of a bullying situation and was severely injured two weeks later. Even after it was reported to the teacher, prior to the assault, nothing was done to halt the aberrant behavior of the student picking on him. A very minor slap on the wrist was punishment assessed by the school after my son was injured. This seems to be acceptable behavior by our school system. The knife was not a good idea, a bad choice if you will. However, I commend the older brother for standing up for his loved one. I cannot imagine what it would be like attempting to grow up in today’s backwards, screwed up, society. Parents please communicate with your children, let them know you love and support them. I really do not believe that we know half of the pressures they deal with every day at school. I am almost to the point of not allowing my children to attend school out of fear for their safety.
