(June 1, 2006)--Widespread flash flooding was breaking out Thursday in the Corpus Christi area after about ten inches of rain fell on the area overnight.

Water build-up closed parts of Interstate 37 and nearby streets overnight in some parts of the city.

Flood waters submerged several vehicles, and water is reported in several Corpus Christi area homes.

Lightning is suspected in an explosion and fire at the Valero refinery in Corpus Christi.

Fire crews quickly doused the flames and no injuries were reported.

A flood warning has been issued for Oso Creek along Corpus Christi's western outskirts.
