Police Suspect Game In Death Of Boy Found Hanging In School Bathroom Save Email Print

(October 3, 2008)—Austin police think a 7-year-old boy found dead hanging from a hook in a school bathroom may have been playing a game students call "run and jump."

Police reports released Thursday about the February death of Tevin Park-Flowers say that students at the Not Your Ordinary School sometimes ran along benches lining the walls of the bathroom in a game students called the game "run and jump" because they liked to jump from bench to bench and try to touch the ceiling.

Tevin had been excused from a school assembly on Jan. 30 to go to the bathroom.

When he didn't return, a male teacher went looking for him and found the boy caught on a hook by his shirt.

Police said the shirt collar cut off his oxygen.

They also considered suicide or homicide but found no evidence to support either possibility.

An attorney for Tevin's parents said he had "lingering questions" about the boy's death.

Police said in February they considered the death accidental.

If the school knew the kids were playing this game why were the benches in the bathroom. why do you need benches in a bathroom this does sound fishy!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm just curious to why there are benches and hooks in the bathroom to begin with? You go do your business then come back, you don't need to sit down and rest or hand your little hat on a hook! Also the whole situation sounds suspicious... The boy must have hooked himself pretty good, on a rock solid hook that was mounted too high, for the shirt not to tear, the hook not to break, and/or the boy not able to touch the floor... Maybe it was a freak accident, stranger things have happened.

What kind of hook wouldn't rip a shirt with a child's body weight pulling against it?? And why wasn't he able to just slip out of the shirt?? This sounds REALLY fishy to me.

pairs, kids should never go anywhere without someone with them. that is how they get molested, or unexplained accidents! pairs!

Ahhhh..you can remove the hooks and the benches...it would just be nice to get these kids to think with their heads for once.

I agree with MMH and hope that the school has taken some measures to try and prevent something like this from happening again, sorry that preventive measures were not already in place, and maybe this baby would still be alive, so tragic, i hope and pray that the mother and father will be able to find closure and try to resume a normal life. God Bless You I Really Mean That

something doesnt sound right about this. i'm trying to imagine what size & kind of hook it was & how it was mounted to the wall or hanging from the ceiling along with the placement of the benches and it just doesnt add up. kinda makes me wonder if a teacher didnt go postal after probably telling kids numerous times to stop jumping from the benches and thought they'd teach a lesson by hanging the kid from a hook without thinking about him dying because of it. i dont know. but this is terrible & i feel so sorry for his family.

I hope that this school did one of two things: removed the benches and or the hooks!
