(October 4, 2008)—A sealed bag of Christmas ornaments that was washed away when Hurricane Ike roared ashore three weeks ago has turned up hundreds of miles away on a beach in Corpus Christi.
Theresa Cass of Corpus Christi found the ornaments and discovered that some had the “Berg” family name on them.
She did an Internet search that eventually led to the Berg family of Sabine Pass.
The Bergs are living in Groves and Port Neches while waiting for temporary housing because Ike wrecked their home.
Cass mailed the items back this week.
The ornaments arrived in Beaumont, where the family's Sabine Pass mail is being directed.
Scottie Berg says her children were toddlers when the family years ago started using some of the tree ornaments, so she's happy to have the items back.
