(October 10, 2008)—The race for the District 55 State Representative Seat has a new face to go along with Democrat Sam Murphy and republican Ralph Sheffield.

Belton resident Danny Daniels has thrown his hat into the ring; however, Daniels is not in the race to win, only to draw attention to a serious issue that, according to Daniels, has plagued Bell County: child abuse.

Bell County has the 5th highest child abuse rate in the state. The county also spends around 5-million dollars a year fighting the affects of child abuse.

Daniels hopes that whoever wins the election will go to Austin and work to put a stop to child abuse.

"We want the winner of the election to be an advocate for prevention and prevention works legislation," Daniels told News 10.

Danny Daniels' name will be on the ballot, along with Sam Murphy’s and Ralph Sheffield’s, in the District 55 Special Election only.

Earlier this year, the District 55 Seat was vacated by Republican Diane White Delisi. The Special Election race will determine the candidate that will fill Delisi’s empty seat for the remainder of her term.
