Victims Of Deadly Early-Morning Home Invasion Identified Save Email Print

(October 13, 2008)—One person is dead and another injured following an early morning home invasion that led to a fatal stabbing.

Waco police officers were dispatched just before 4 a.m. Monday to a home near the intersection of North 39th Street and Watt Avenue to investigate a report of a burglary in which the burglar was attacking the residents.

The woman, who reported the incident, said that her ex-boyfriend had broken into the house, stabbed her mother and then stabbed her mother’s boyfriend, police said.

Yolanda Leonard, 34, told officers she woke up to find her ex boyfriend in her bedroom.

She told police her mother, Rebecca Leonard, 52, was stabbed after she came to her room in response to her screams.

Jerry Patterson, 67, then entered the bedroom and was attacked as well.

He was able to reach a neighbor’s house to ask for help.

The attacker then fled the scene before police could arrive.

Rebecca Leonard died at the scene.

Patterson was taken to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center where he underwent emergency surgery.

Police say he is expected to recover.

Officers later arrested Jeremy Lowrey, 24, of Hill County, near the intersection of West Waco Drive and North 42nd Street in connection with the stabbing.

The incident remains under investigation.

This is a very sad situation, and my heart goes out to the deceased, and her husband, but i just feel that the daughter may have had something to do with this, i mean this story just makes no sense, if the boyfriend had indeed broken into the home to do harm to the girlfriend, then why is she still alive? I smell a Rat!Just my opinion

We worked with Yalanda and she was very fond of her mother and lived with her mother to help provide for her. We are so sorry for her loss and will be in our prayers.
