(October 13, 2008)—A 26-year-old teacher in Tuscola who was initially put on leave in a dispute over a book was free on bond Monday after he was charged in connection with three incidents in 2005 involving attempts to have sex with students.
Kaleb Tierce is named in an indictment charging three counts of attempted improper relationship between educator and student that alleges he asked one of the girls what she would do to get a better grade.
The offense is a felony punishable by as much as 10 years imprison.
Tierce turned himself in Friday and was later released after posting a $30,000 bond.
His attorney did not immediately comment on the allegations.
Tierce taught English and was an assistant football coach at Jim Ned High School in Tuscola.
He was placed on leave initially after the parents of a 14-year-old student filed a complaint that the book “Chlld of God” by Pulitzer Prize winner Cormac McCarthy was too graphic for teenagers.
The Abilene Reporter-News reported that trustees voted in March not to renew Tierce's contract.
