(August 3, 2006)—An incident management team from Georgia was scheduled to arrive in Granbury Thursday to support state and local crews battling wildfires around the state.
Other resources were en route from Florida and Tennessee, the Texas Forest Service said.
The Forest Service responded to nine new fires Thursday that scorched nearly 1,700 acres.
A fire in northwest Comanche County burned a hundred acres and threatened 15 homes, including some that had to be temporarily evacuated.
The fire was 90 percent contained late Wednesday.
Firefighters had yet to get a handle on a fire in southwest Texas where a group of three fires has burned 2,500 acres on the Pecos-Brewster county line and the Pecos-Terrell county line.
Firefighters used bulldozers, brush trucks and helicopters to battle the blaze, which was started by lightning.
There were no reports of injuries or property damage.
