TIMPSON, Texas (February 3, 2009)--A 27-year-old cowboy from Garrison has died after a bull stepped on him.

Services are Wednesday for Josh Griffin, who was fatally injured Sunday while riding at Timpson Rodeo Arena.

Shelby County Sheriff Newton Johnson said Griffin was riding the bull when he lost his grip, fell and was stepped on.

Griffin was taken to a hospital in Longview, where he died.

A witness, the Rev. Chet Strain, said Griffin was wearing a helmet and protective gear, but one of the bull's legs evidently caught on the rider's chest when he fell.

Services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Holly Springs Baptist Church near Garrison.

Bull riders are a special breed of people, loving what they do. God bless this cowboy and my God comfort his family in their time of sorrow. May he live on in your memories forever. My prayers are with you.

The cowboys that make it to heaven are those who have accepted Jesus Christ into their hearts and live for Him. Let's pray that this young man was one who trusted the Lord with his life. The only way to heaven is thru Jesus.
