CLIFTON (March 24, 2009)--A man who robbed a convenience store at gunpoint Monday night in Clifton was in custody within an hour, mostly because the clerk knew him.

Clifton Police Chief Steve Adcock said the man walked into the Santa Fe Express store at about 9:15 p.m. Monday, brandished a weapon, forced the female clerk to lie on the floor and took cash from the cash register.

No one was injured.

The cashier recognized the man despite his blue bandana disguise and informed responding officers of his identity.

Adcock said officers arrested David Lee Allen, Jr., 22, of Clifton, about 45 minutes later in some bushes near Allen’s home.

Allen was in the Bosque County Jail Tuesday in lieu of $100,000 bond, charged with aggravated robbery.

Adcock told News 10 he has been chief in Clifton for about a year-and-a-half and for 10 years prior to that he served the area as a Department of Public Safety trooper. In all that time this is the first aggravated robbery he has investigated there.

Why don't yal stop bad mouthing Adcock and the rest of the CPD? They put many hours in, and work very hard to keep this community under control? I wish some of you would try that job for a week. Thank's for everything Adcock, and the rest of the PD.
