LAKE BELTON (April 2, 2009)-One woman was injured when high winds toppled a large tree onto her car while she was inside.
The woman, believed to be from Bell County, was laying on the back seat of her car to escape the chilly winds when a large tree snapped off and landed length-wise on her automobile, trapping her inside.
The woman was not identified because of federal HIPPA regulations.
Moffat Fire Chief Hal Pagel told News 10 his department was first dispatched to the scene in Owl Creek Park at about 10:40 a.m. Thursday.
Pagel called for assistance from Temple Fire Department and Morgan's Point Volunteer Fire Department, as well as Scott and White Emergency Medical Services.
Pagel said it took some time to get the large tree stabilized so rescuers could deal with cutting into pieces so it could be removed.
At least a portion of the tree's branches crashed through the back window of the car and fragments of glass burst inside and caused minor cuts to the woman.
Pagel said she was complaining of neck pain.
Pagel said it took about 20 to 30 minutes to complete the rescue and remove the injured woman from the vehicle.
One firefighter was able to crawl into the car and care for the trapped woman before she could be removed from the wreckage.
Once freed, the injured woman was taken to Scott and White Hospital, in Temple, for treatment of what Page called non-life threatening injuries.
She and a companion had been camping at Owl Creek Park.
"This was caused by the high wind," Pagel said. "No doubt about it.
"I've never seen anything like this before," Page said. "I've seen trees on top of cars after tornados, but never anything like this."
News 10 Meterologist Lon Curtis estimated winds gusts as high as 43 mph at Temple at 11 a.m.

You still didn't get it right. Even after someone spelled it out for you. It's "HIPAA" not "HEPA" or "HIPPA". Wow, who do you guys hire to check this stuff? I know you're probably not going to post this one as you didn't post my last one. I guess you are too ashamed of yourself.
