(October 14, 2006)—The state’s unclaimed property fund has reached $1.5 billion and the Comptroller’s Office makes its annual effort Sunday to reunite the owners with their unclaimed assets.

This year’s unclaimed property list will be released Sunday in more than 30 Texas newspapers.

The list includes nearly 1,500 Waco residents due a total of more than $4.4 million and more than 600 Temple residents due a total of more than $1.8 billion.

The unclaimed property includes such things as checks that haven’t been cashed, dormant bank accounts, utility and rent deposits, insurance proceeds, and abandoned safe deposit box contents.

“Since I took office, I have returned more than $532 million in unclaimed property to its original owners,” Comptroller Carole Keeton Strayhorn said.

“This year I hope even more Texans can reclaim their hard-earned dollars by taking a few minutes to review the list.”
