Body Recovered On Lake Whitney
Witnesses say man was wading in shallow water before he went under.

(May 24, 2009) - A Central Texas man's body was recovered from Lake Whitney Sunday evening.

Hill County dispatch got an emergency call about a possible drowning at 4:40 p.m.

Hill County Sheriff's deputies, the Lake Whitney volunteer fire department, game wardens and the Lake Whitney Rescue Association made up of divers from various fire departments, all responded to the call.

Divers focused their search on a cove near Cedar Creek Park.

At about 6 p.m., a body was found.

No name was given but the victim is said to be in his 60's and from Italy, Texas.

Witnesses told emergency crews, the man was walking in some shallow water and must have stepped in deeper water when he went under.

An autopsy was ordered.

The drowning remains under investigation.
