(January 12, 2007)—A management review found that the City of Marlin failed to collect nearly $2 million in unpaid parking tickets and fines for violations of city ordinances.

The review was ordered after city officials discovered Marlin’s municipal court wasn’t generating the revenue it should have been.

What the review uncovered were literally thousands of tickets that had not been logged or properly filed.

The statue of limitations has expired on many of them, which means Marlin can’t collect about $1.1 million in fines the city was due.

Another $709,000 is due from tickets issued from 2005-2006.

The city has sent out 1,400 letters in an attempt to collect what it can of that amount.

Marlin City Manager Randy Holly says the city’s municipal court clerk was fired Thursday for failing to do her job, a firing the clerk told News Ten was “unfair.”
