CORSICANA (August 11, 2009)—Julio Briones Alonso, 35, has been charged with murder in the weekend shooting death of a Navarro County boy, the Navarro County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.

The shooting was reported just before 4 a.m. Sunday at a home at 7211 South Interstate 45 in the town of Angus.

The boy was taken by his mother to Navarro Regional Hospital in Corsicana and then was flown to Children’s Medical Center in Dallas where he died later in the day Sunday.

Alonso was arrested Sunday and charged with injury to a child.

He was released after posting bond.

Monday, investigators rearrested Alonso on a warrant charging murder.

He was ordered held in lieu of $75,000 bond.

Other details were not released Tuesday.

It was the second shooting of the weekend in the county.

At about 1 a.m. Saturday, deputies were dispatched to a residence in Frost where Robbie Warren, 41, had been shot with a small caliber rifle during a domestic altercation.

She was flown by helicopter to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center with what authorities said was a non-lethal wound.

Forrest Warren, 37, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon.

He was free on $15,000 bond Tuesday.
