Testimony Resumes Wednesday In Gentry Murder Trial

(February 7, 2007)—An eight-woman four-man jury will hear a second day of prosecution testimony Wednesday in the murder trial of Darlene Gentry, the 32-year-old Robinson woman accused of shooting her husband to death in 2005.

Gentry is charged in the Nov. 9, 2005 shooting death of her husband, Waymon Keith Gentry, 31.

He died of a gunshot wound to the back of the head.

Darlene Gentry originally told investigators she found her husband lying in a pool of blood between 5:30 a.m. and 6 a.m. on Nov. 9 after going to check on a noise in the kitchen of the family’s home at 531 E. Moonlight Dr. in Robinson.

But prosecutors say she fired the shot that killed her husband and then tried to make it appear that there had been a break-in at the couple’s home before calling police.

A police dispatcher testified Tuesday morning than Gentry was unusually calm when she called to report the shooting.

Police officer Patrick Carey, who responded to the shooting, confirmed that although the defendant is a nurse, she wasn’t trying to help her injured husband.

Robinson police detective Mike Noel later testified about his investigation of the killing and how the findings led him to conclude that Darlene Gentry had shot her husband and then carried guns from the house to place in the front yard.

The defense pointed to a second suspect, identified as a jealous husband, whom police questioned, but who investigators say had an alibi.
