(February 19, 2007)—A 52-year-old woman died Monday in Killeen when a Ford Mustang driven by a 19-year-old Fort Hood soldier veered across the median of US Highway 190 and struck her Mazda Protégé.

The soldier steered into the median in an attempt to avoid a collision with another vehicle that had pulled into his lane, police said.

A male passenger in the Mazda was taken to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center with injuries police said were not life threatening.

The Mustang also struck a Chevrolet Trailblazer, police said.

The 22-year-old woman driving the Trailblazer and the 19-year-old soldier and his passenger all escaped injury, police said.

An autopsy was ordered.

The names of the victims were not immediately available.
