Well, We Thought We Were Married…
Just shy of their 50th anniversary, a couple discovered that they’re not actually married at all.

WILMORE, Pa. (September 28, 2009)—A couple in western Pennsylvania plans to celebrate their 49th wedding anniversary next month even though they recently learned their marriage paperwork was never filed.

Frank and Betty Skrout were married Oct. 6, 1960, at a Catholic church in Wilmore, a tiny borough 55 miles east of Pittsburgh where they still live.

But the priest who presided over the nuptials failed to file a return of marriage document, proving he performed the ceremony.

The Skrouts didn’t learn of the paperwork glitch until recently when Betty Skrout applied for pension benefits only to discover that she was still listed as being single.

The Skrouts are working with the church to fix the problem.

You have got to be kidding? Just imagine something really drastic had happened and either one of them could help the other or get spousal benifits. Due to some man not signing a paper! O wow!

That would be the only thing that would make a difference in this world. It's just a piece of paper signed by man, not God.
