(March 20, 2007)--A judge in the Bahamas today ordered a DNA test on the infant daughter of one-time Mexia resident Anna Nicole Smith to identify the father Tuesday.
Larry Birkhead, an ex-boyfriend of the Playboy playmate who asked the judge to order the test on six-month-old Dannielynn, pumped his fists in the air as he emerged from the closed hearing.
An attorney for Smith's mother Virgie Arthur confirmed the judge ordered the test, but declined to describe the proceedings.
Authorities left the Nassau building after the hearing and could immediately be reached for comment.
Smith’s longtime companion Howard K. Stern is listed as the father on the Bahamian birth certificate.
He has remained secluded with Dannielynn in the waterfront home where he lived with Smith.
A judge ordered him not to move the child from the island chain until a ruling was made in the three-way custody dispute.
The fight for custody of the girl, who could potentially inherit millions of dollars from her mother's estate, began after Smith, 39, died on Feb. 8 in her hotel room in Florida.
The cause of death has not been revealed and an announcement of the medical examiner’s findings was delayed after the discovery of what officials said was new evidence in the hotel room in which Smith died.
Meanwhile, one of the role players in the Smith case has been cited for smoking marijuana in a city park in Florida.
The accused, Broward County Judge Lawrence Korda was the original judge in the Florida portion of the Anna Nicole Smith burial case, before the case was turned over to Circuit Court judge Larry Seidlin.
Authorities say Judge Korda was smoking marijuana while sitting under a tree at Stanley Goldman Park in Florida over the weekend.
Three officers who were in the area doing training caught Korda and conducted a field test on the substance.
The judge was not arrested.
He was given a misdemeanor citation to appear in court.
