Viking Hills Elementary School Teacher Deborah Focarile spent Memorial Day Weekend in Central Texas with her two little girls-- three and a half year old Emma Rose and 15 month old Olivia.
Olivia is in the US for the first time with her new family.
Just weeks ago, Deborah along with Emma Rose traveled to China to adopt little Olivia.
" We're glad to be back and just settling in. We've all the made the switch. Our days and nights are backwards because China is 13 hours ahead. We're settling, getting a routine going. It's a lot different with tow then one," says Deborah.
Deborah made the same trip to China three years ago for Emma Rose, but her plans were almost derailed because of the September 11th attacks.
Her flight was grounded, but a week later she was able to make her trip and adopt then eleven month old Emma Rose.
Now Emma Rose is three and a half-- and a big sister!
" Emma loves her new little sister. She's very protective of her and when we were in China, when the Chinese ladies would try to come and touch the baby, Emma would get very upset-- Get away! That's my sister... Don't touch my sister!" says Deborah.
But for little sis, Olivia-- it took a little more time to get adjusted.
" She was living with a foster family when we got her so she wasn't very happy to be taken away then... So she cried for a day. Two days after that, she did really well."
The trip was exhausting, Deborah says, but so worthwhile.
She says she took Emma Rose this time around-- not only to meet her new little sister, but also so she would have some memory of the country that she and her little sister were born.
" It was a lot of work to get there, but there is no price to put on it. It's just invaluable... These girls are very dear to my heart and I'm very proud to be their mom."
