(July 20, 2007)--Federal agents this week arrested 274 illegal immigrants during raids in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
On Friday, Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced results of the operation, which began Monday.
The suspects include illegal immigrants, people wanted by immigration authorities and immigrants with criminal records.
ICE says that out of the 274 arrested, 99 had criminal convictions.
Field office director Nuria Prendes says such operations are critical in removing threats to public safety.
Law enforcement officers in Dallas, Irving, Fort Worth, Arlington, Farmers Branch, Carrollton and Blue Mound took part.
Authorities detained people from Colombia, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nigeria, Romania and South Korea.
Half of those arrested have already been returned to Mexico.
Others await deportation.
