(September 18, 2007)—Waco police say they do have a suspect in the search for the man who opened fire Monday night on an apartment on Lake Air Drive, just across from a row of busy restaurants.
No arrests have been made, but on Tuesday afternoon, police did recover what they think is the truck in which the gunman escaped Monday night, after firing five shotgun blasts into the door of the unit at the Aspen Village apartments at 912 Lake Air Drive.
The apartments are across the street from several popular Waco restaurants.
The shooting injured Daniel Lazaro Sanchez, 27, and Valarie Ann Basaldva, 21.
At the sound of the gunfire, the victims told police that Basaldva and another woman who was in the apartment took cover under a table and Sanchez tried to run out the back door.
He was hit in the leg as he was trying to unlock the door.
The gunman was last seen running toward the intersection of Tennyson and Lake Air, where he got into what witnesses described as a teal green GMC Sonoma extended cab pickup, which was recovered early Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of Columbia and Shelby.
Sanchez was taken to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center and Basaldva was treated at the scene for a cut on the leg.
