(September 20, 2007)—An arrest warrant was issued Thursday for Ricardo Ramirez, 31, charging aggravated assault and deadly conduct in connection with an incident Monday night at a Waco apartment complex where a man fired several shotgun rounds into the door of a unit, injuring two of the three people inside.
The gunman also pointed the shotgun at a neighbor who stepped outside to see what was happening, but did not fire.
It happened around 7 p.m. Monday at the Aspen Village apartments at 912 Lake Air Drive.
The apartments are across the street from several popular Waco restaurants.
The shooting injured Daniel Lazaro Sanchez, 27, and Valarie Ann Basaldva, 21.
At the sound of the gunfire, the victims told police that Basaldva and another woman who was in the apartment took cover under a table and Sanchez tried to run out the back door.
He was hit in the leg as he was trying to unlock the door.
The gunman was last seen running toward the intersection of Tennyson and Lake Air, where he got into what witnesses described as a teal green GMC Sonoma extended cab pickup, which was recovered early Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of Columbia and Shelby.
Sanchez was taken to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center and Basaldva was treated at the scene for a cut on the leg.
Police say Ramirez has ties to both Waco and Marlin.
They say he should be considered armed and dangerous.
