Elderly Couple Freezes To Death In Farm Field

JEFFERSON, Md. (January 11, 2011)--An elderly Pennsylvania couple evidently died from exposure to the cold in a farm field in
Maryland, authorities said Tuesday.

Frederick County Sheriff's Office Cpl. Jennifer Bailey identified the two as William Fresch, 85, and Betty Fresch, 79, of Shippensburg, Pa.

Shippensburg police say they were last seen Friday leaving their daughter's home in Mechanicsburg, Pa.

Bailey says the couple drove off Gene Hemp Road into the ravine, got stuck and started walking.

They evidently both succumbed to the cold weather.

She says a passerby found the bodies Tuesday morning.

Autopsies were ordered.
