WACO (January 4, 2011)—Waco’s L-3 Communications is laying off about 50 workers in response to federal spending cuts.

L-3’s Platform Integration facility in Waco employs about 2,000.

“The Department of Defense is undertaking major efficiency initiatives and it’s our responsibility to ensure that L-3 Platform Integration supports these efforts and remains a market leader by providing aircraft integration services as optimally as possible,” said L-3 Platform Integration President James Burkhardt in a brief statement Tuesday.

“Today, we reduced our workforce by approximately 2.5 percent, action that will keep us among the most competitive in our industry and positioned for long-term success,” he said.
