Fort Hood: Pentagon Announces 1st Cav’s New Commanding General

FORT HOOD (January 25, 2012)--The Pentagon announced on Tuesday that Maj. Gen. Anthony R. Ierardi will be replacing Maj. Gen. Daniel B. Allyn, as commanding general of the 1st Cavalry Division.

Ierardi, head of Force Management, Headquarters Army, was selected by Army Chief of Staff Gen. Raymond T. Odierno to replace Allyn who was nominated recently by President Obama to serve as lieutenant general and to take command of the 18th Airborne Corps at Fort Bragg, N. C.

Ierardi is not a stranger to Fort Hood where he served as division operations officer and commander of the 1st Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment and 1st Brigade.

His other experience includes serving as the executive officer for the Defense Department's Counter-Improvised Explosive Device Senior Interrogation Group, a Latin American foreign area officer and chief of staff for the 2nd Infantry Division in Korea.

Ierardi entered the military as an armor officer in 1982.
