WASHINGTON (February 9, 2012)--A new survey of attitudes finds a significant number of Americans believe that younger adults have been hit harder than any other group by the tight job market.
The Pew survey finds that 41 percent of Americans believe young adults have taken the biggest recession hit, compared to 29 percent who say it's middle-aged Americans and 24 percent who point to seniors.
At least 69 percent also say young adults are having a tougher time getting by than their parents did when they were young.
Among young adults ages 18 to 34, only a third rated their financial situation as "excellent" or "good." The number was around 50 percent in 2004, before the recession began.
But the survey also indicates young people are upbeat about the future. Only 9 percent say they don't think they'll ever have enough money to live the life they want.
