Foundation Donates $25 Million For Alzheimer’s Work

HOUSTON (October 29, 2012)--The Robert A. and Renee E. Belfer Family Foundation has donated $25 million for research on Alzheimer's and other neurodegenerative diseases, the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston announced Monday.

M.D. Anderson will share the money with the Baylor College of Medicine and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to create the Neurodegeneration Consortium.

The gift requires the consortium partners to raise $25 million in matching funds by Jan. 1, 2016.

Organizers have already raised $6.5 million.

The Belfer Family Foundation is based in New York City.
